FRAMING PROBLEMS
Problem Statement Framework
The problem statement is a clearly identified problem framed from the user's perspective. This helps us foster user-centered design (UCD), team alignment, shared understanding, and clarity about what the solution is intended to address.
When to use?
After your research, you can write a clear, validated problem statement along with potential solution statements, all framed from the user's perspective. It's perfectly fine to have more than one problem to solve, and they can be tailored to different personas.
You can also conduct this as a brainstorming session with your team to gather ideas on the key problems to solve for your users, based on research findings. Afterward, vote on the most important problem to address.
Problem Statement Template
The template follows the UPS (User, Problem, Solution) format. You can also use it without the solution section in cases where the team is not yet ready to focus on the solution.
