THE SERVICE BLUE PRINT

Service design is the activity of modeling, planning, organizing people,

their interactions with each other and the real world context.
Then using this understanding to create a service in order to improve the
quality of the interaction between the service provider and it's customers.

 

Think: how to improve the voting system. There's no software. How
would you model the entire voting process? You do a service blue print.

 

 

THE SERVICE BLUE PRINT

A diagram of a user’s path through an experience, including physical, in person, and screen
touch-points. They are large diagrams that can easily communicate a complex flow (especially if there are multiple interactions with multiple personas, spread over several days, weeks, months)

 

Think: model the life-cylce of a facebook message (notifications, emails, shares, likes, comments..)

 

 

The VISUAL diagram is useful in communicating the complex interactions of any scenario for yourself team, clients, and stakeholders can understand.

 

 

 

You can model the current state during discovery phase (problem)

and the beginning of the future state (solution)

We're going to do the future state.

 

 

 

 

    Service Blueprints are great for diagramming a work-flow that:

1. Spans multiple mediums of interaction (phone call → website → email → app → in-person)

 

2. Requires people, systems, and business folks to help us connect all the interaction a user can't see

 

3. Processes that can spans hours, days, weeks, or months

4. Is crucial to the success of the business (this process takes time and people to get right)

Then you take picture of it and model it in illustrator/sketch

Then you print it out and stick it on the wall around yourself &
team so you all can refer to it when conversing on the experience

you're designing, and engineering.
